International Nitro and Great Racing

Ken Galvin and Ryan Sheldon’s first foray into drag racing event management has been hailed as a success by all who attended the Nitro Nostalgia Reunion at Taupo Thunder Dragway.

Four American racers made the logistically challenging trip to New Zealand to bring the excitement of Nitro fuelled nostalgia racing for the first time in over 30 years.

With pre entries for the event pushing past the hundred mark and the remaining on day entries bringing the total to 138, plus the planned test day prior to the event succumbing to rain, the day was not without its challenges!

Overnight rain threatened to cause chaos but the race meeting started slightly behind schedule and with the racers and management working hard the event only just lost out to the curfew in the late afternoon.

One of the American racers, Stormy Bryd, even had to overcome his fear of flying to get to New Zealand. “This was the first time I have stepped on a plane – and then I flew halfway around the world!” he said adding “and what a trip – we have all had a blast and really appreciate the friendliness and support shown by everyone”.

Don’t forget that the racing restarts just a days later with the next big event at Taupo Thunder Dragway is the Meguiars Summer Nationals on the 2^nd and 3^rd of January.
